Olympic gold-medalist Lindsey Vonn plans to start in Wednesday's downhill training run at the Audi FIS Alpine World Cup in Lake Louise, Canada, according to a U.S. Ski Team statement released Tuesday. She received permission from U.S. Women's Ski Team Head Physician Dr. Bill Sterett and her coaches after training sessions in Vail, Colo. A final decision on whether or not she will actually race in the downhill Friday and Saturday, along with super G on Sunday, will be made after her last training run on Thursday.

On Nov. 19 at Copper Mountain, Colo., Vonn suffered a setback in her return from ACL surgery on her right knee during last season. Her recent injury involved a mild strain to her right knee, a partial tear to her right ACL, minor facial abrasions and scapular contusions.

Vonn has dominated World Cup competition at Lake Louise in recent years. Going back to 2006, she has won every downhill race at the venue except for three runner-up finishes. Vonn has also stood atop the podium in the past three super G races there. Along with racing in Lake Louise, Vonn hopes to be 100 percent for the February Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, where she will defend her gold medal in the downhill.
