Trollhaugen Ski Area in Dresser, Wisconsin has an awesome perk to draw skiers from all over on Friday nights. They are open until 3am on Friday nights from November 25th through March 2nd.
This means if you work in Chicago and can get on the road by no later than 4:30 or 5pm, you can escape the big city and make the Trollhaugen ski slopes by midnight and still have a chance to ski for three hours. The convenient hours are also backed by affordable prices.
Ski passes on Friday cost $28 from 3pm until close, which is twelve hours of skiing. Chicago late comers even get a better deal as the late night pass from 10pm until 3am is only $15.00. What an awesome day of adventure to be wearing your casual jeans at work during the afternoon and then a mere 8 hours later be on a snowy Wisconsin slope. How many people in Chicago can say they will be doing the same?
For those dubious about the merits of Wisconsin skiing, I can testify that the runs at Trollhaugen are a great time. They have some runs that are challenging enough to take some skill. The Chute and Jumping Judy drop straight down to the ski lift area and will give skiers a shot of adrenaline as they scream down the snow.
A favorite run of mine was the Half Rabbit pass down to the rope pull up to the Summit. The rope pull jettisons skiers up the Summit with considerable force. The rope pull is almost as fun as skiing downhill. Once the rope pull gets you to the Summit it is back down the slopes. This run takes about four minutes, and it is a blast.
Other interesting runs at Trollhaugen include Storebakken, Jim’s Run, Nissebakken, and Logan’s Run. This means they have enough downill trails to keep the skiing interesting.
For those looking for a little après ski, then Trollhaugen will not disappoint. On Friday nights there is live music in the Skolhaugen Lounge from 9pm until 1am.
The Valley Motel in Dresser is a recommended place to stay. It is only 1 mile from the ski hill, has reasonable rates, and included free wi-fi. Another hot spot for live music and après ski resides right next door, so no need to drink and drive in Dresser.
When your co-workers at work ask you on Friday what your plans are tell them you plan to do some midnight skiing.
