Ronald Rhinesmith was arrested last Friday for animal cruelty and neglect after his dog, Cricket, was found to be suffering from untreated cancer and severe malnutrition. The skeletal dog's condition shocked Charlotte County, Florida Animal Control Officer Reannon Juergensen, who stated that this case was among the top five of the worst neglect situations she had seen in her 12 years of work.

Cricket's body was so far gone by the time that she was discovered that she had to be humanely euthanized.

Rhinesmith told the authorities that he did not have the funds to pay for her treatment - there is no word of why he did not request for Cricket to be humanely put down before she deteriorated so badly.

Rhinesmith was briefly jailed, but released after posting bail.
