In early 1994, the old Broadmoor World Arena, located on the grounds of the five star Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs, Colorado, was torn down. That arena, which opened in 1938, had a rich history. Champions skated there, but also international ice skating events including the World Figure Skating Championships came to the Broadmoor World Arena.
The Colorado Springs World Arena Ice Hall (two ice sheets which became a figure skating training center) opened its doors two years after the old Broadmoor World Arena closed. Then, the main Colorado Springs World Arena opened in 1998.
Tradition of excellence:
Just like the old Broadmoor World Arena, the entire Colorado Springs World Arena, located about ten minutes from the Broadmoor Hotel, has created its own rich history. Ice skaters of all ages and levels come from all over the globe to Colorado Springs to train at the World Arena Ice Hall and the facility is a designated Olympic training site. International and national figure skating competitions, professional ice shows, college hockey, the circus, famous entertainers, and other great events have come to the facility.
It is very clear that some of the greatest ice skaters in history have skated and trained in Colorado Springs. The Broadmoor Skating Club has called the beautiful Colorado Springs World Arena home, and at the Colorado Springs World Arena Ice Hall, many figure skaters continued the Broadmoor Skating Club's tradition of excellence.
Mural and banners remember ice skating champions:
Inside the Colorado Springs World Arena is a beautiful mural that remembers the Broadmoor World Arena's ice skating champions and banners honoring national, world, and Olympic ice skating champions who have trained at the old Broadmoor World Arena or at the Colorado Springs World Arena Ice Hall hang above the Olympic ice sheet in the Ice Hall.
The Colorado Springs World Arena's new name: The Broadmoor World Arena in Colorado Springs:
Now, our city's rich history has come full circle since it was announced on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 that the Colorado Springs World Arena has a new name. The facility will now be called The Broadmoor World Arena in Colorado Springs. Figure skaters will again be able to say that they skate and train at The Broadmoor!
