Somewhere between the distant sounds of kids playing Skylander Giants and XM music I found myself channel surfing until I heard the word, “ghost”. ESPN was playing an interview with skateboarder Leo Romero from 2012, in which he was talking about ghosts in his house, unfortunately I only caught the tail end of the interview. I scoured the internet and was able to find a similar interview posted on Youtube from RideChannel’s original show, “FREE LUNCH.” The question was asked of Romero, “Is Your House Haunted?”
Romero responded, “People have opinions about that bro.. I don’t think it is. do you think it is? People just have really strange dreams there and some people say they have seen stuff, heard stuff, my mom says she has heard stuff. I've had like one encounter which was kind of weird; which I was taking a shower and heard like a girl call my name, like pretty clearly and I like looked outside and was like whoa.. That's weird!
I mean if it is, maybe it was like that shining girl that's like hot at first and then you kiss and shes ugly, but I mean I think also it’s a really old house that makes a lot of sounds and you think you heard shit, if your like
weird-ed out, you know? My mom saw a shadow person, my old roommate John Mahovitz, he shaw shadow people, sorry; shaw, saw shadow people.”
I played over the interview and thought to myself, “who is Leo Romero?” It turns out Leo Romero won Thrasher Magazine’s annual Skater of the Year award in 2010, and had maintained his skateboarding career via his sponsor TOY MACHINE. It is unclear why the interviewer chose to focus on the subject of ghosts with such an accomplished athlete at their disposal perhaps it is because ghosts and the paranormal have become part of our mainstream culture. With regards to the possible apparitional experiences (ghosts) at Mr. Romero’s house, a lot of other natural explanations would need to be ruled out. Should however the situation become more aggressive their are many solid evidence based paranormal investigators in California that would jump at a chance to investigate such a place.
