Skateboard event to take over Point Fermin area

Calling all skateboarders – San Pedro Shred: Festival of Skate 2013 on March 30 is being called an “all encompassing” skateboard event. Gaffey Street from 31st up and over to Paseo Del Mar will be closed to accommodate the event. There will be an open “freeride” section, a street skating course and a slide jam zone. The event is free and will run from 10am to 4pm.

San Pedro Shred is presented by Riviera Skateboards, Paris Truck Company, Divine Wheel Company, Elephant Brand Skateboards and Wheelbase Magazine.

According to Justin Reynolds, Riviera marketing director, “the event is meant to encourage responsibility, safety and mentorship. Clinics such as ‘Downhill 101’ will teach skills but will also focus on safety equipment and smart skating.” There’s a promotional video on YouTube:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYf-MyFIHAs
