Announced on Thursday, September 5, by Rock Ridge Music, the Orange County, CA based ska band, Suburban Legends, will release their newest EP, Dreams Aren't Real But These Songs Are, on October 8, 2013. There will be an additional LP version debuting November 5, 2013. The EP includes six songs that include a new arrangement of classic Disney singles, with the band's own snazzy mix of ska and pop, with a hint of disco and funk for a fun mix of musical tastiness.
The singles they provide their own sound on are "A Dream Is A Wish" from Cinderella and "You've Got A Friend In Me," from Toy Story, with a cool and crisp rocker session of "Beauty and the Beast."
These fresh takes on the classic Disney singles that millions of people have come to love are a tipping point for the band's upcoming full-length record. Says lead singer, Vincent Walker, "with these classic songs, you hear them once and you’re humming them for weeks. I learned so much about songwriting. There's an effective simplicity here that will definitely impact us on this next album."
The upcoming EP is somewhat of an ode to the band's beginning, as they started out in early 2000's at the Disneyland theme park. Not only did the members hold a regular gigs of performing covers and originals, they also gained adoring and doting fans of their music and beyond. During this time, there was a rise in the ska scene, with band's making it big with hit singles such as No Doubt, Goldfinger and Reel Big Fish. Suburban Legends made a nice niche for themselves with their own original tunes that were reminiscent of '90s Top 40.
Suburban Legends have released five albums, six EPs, and two DVDs. They have performed throughout the US, UK, Europe and Canada, and have shared the bill with such mighty acts as Reel Big Fish, Less Than Jake, Bowling for Soup and Goldfinger.
