SJPD seeking assistance in identifying purse thieves (Photos)

San Jose police today are asking for the public’s help in identifying and locating a pair of suspects involved in an assault and purse snatching robbery last month.

The incident occurred on just before 7 p.m. on February 6 when a man and woman confronted the victim as she was leaving the Race Street light rain station. The female suspect punched and kicked the victim until she fell to the ground and then tried to rip the victim’s purse from her grasp, police say. The male suspect then assisted in the assault, successfully getting a hold of the handbag.

Both suspects fled the scene on bicycles with the victim’s purse and have yet to be located.

The female suspect is described as being Hispanic and in her early 20s, about 5’6” and 190 pounds. She was riding a bicycle with beach cruiser-style handlebars. The male suspect was either white or Hispanic, about 5’7” and 170 pounds. He was riding a 10-speed bicycle with curved handlebars.

Anyone with information on this incident or the whereabouts and identities of the suspects is urged to contact the San Jose Police Department’s Robbery Unit at (408) 277-4166. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Silicon Valley Crimestoppers at (408) 947-7867 and may be eligible for a reward.
