Sizing 'up' the 'stangs O-line

See also

Size matters.

Especially when it comes to protecting a team's quarterback.

That is true for the Milwaukee Mustangs of the Arena Football League as well.

So, when newly-acquired (just two games) Michael Diaz went down to injury last week, the 'stangs were in need of some bulk up front.

This is a necessity in order to keep their QB, RJ Archer, from sustaining too many rug burns.

Enter James Economou, 6-6, 335 pounds from little Southern Connecticut State.

The Northeast-10 Conference he plays in is the only 'little' thing about Economou.

That is welcome news to not only Archer but fullback Mykel Benson as well.

Economou will join the rest of his stablemates which return to action this Saturday night in Jacksonville to do a little Jaw-ing with the Sharks. The AFL contest is set to kickoff at 6 p.m., CDT.

The game can be heard on 540ESPN Milwaukee with Matt Menzl making the call. The game will be streamed live on as well.

Milwaukee (4-8) has the daunting task of slowing down the juggernaut that has become Jacksonville. The Sharks sport the league's best mark at 11-1, having won eleven straight.

The Mustangs hope to accomplish something that has eluded them all season long. That is, winning two games in a row.

Jacksonville QB Aaron Garcia is coming off a performance that garnered him Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors.

Archer had a five TD, no pick performance of his own, which boosted his confidence to a level that his coaches had not seen earlier in the year.

Antonio Malone had a pair of interceptions in the 54-34 win over Kansas City, including a 'Pick 6' as time ran out to put an exclamation point on the overall performance of the defense.

Not that the 'stangs are in the position to look past any opponent, but Milwaukee will stay on the road with a game in Pittsburgh on June 25th. Kickoff for that game is 6:30 p.m., CDT.

The Mustangs will next trod the carpet of the Bradley Center on July 2nd, when the Cleveland Gladiators pay a visit to the Cream City. That contest gets underway at 7 p.m.

Tickets are available for that game and the regular season finale on July 15th against the Iowa Barnstormers at the BC box office, through Ticketmaster, at or by calling the team's office (ask for Carlie) at 414-224-4000.
