The sixth session of "Seeking Him" small group Bible Study was held at New Canaan Worship Center in Richmond, Virginia on Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
The main topic of discussion was "Holiness: A Heart Like His."
Participants gave definitions of holiness that included the following:
- being like God
Then the session moved into the discussion of the two levels of holiness.
This is what God imparts to us when we become His children. Since God is holy and we are sinners, we are reconciled to God by the blood of Jesus shed on the cross according to Colossians 1:19-22. God imparts Christ's righteousness into us and makes us holy before Him. We have been set apart when we came into the family of God. That is our position. This was God's doing, and there was nothing we could have done to help it along.
This is what we can do something about. Personal holiness is what we do based on our positional holiness. Because we belong to God, His Holy Spirit is in us to divinely equip us to live according to the will of God. Personal, practical holiness is what we do after receiving positional holiness. Personal holiness is to be separated from sin and consecrated to God for His purposes and His love. It is to do with confidence what God has positioned us to do.
