Christian pop/rock group Sixpence None the Richer will stop in Ames on January 25 for a show at The Maintenance Shop (2229 Lincoln Way) on the Iowa State University campus. Doors for the concert will open at 8:30 p.m., and the music will start at 9 p.m. Tickets for the concert are $17 in advance and $19 the day of the show. ISU student tickets are $12 in advance and $14 the day of the show. Tickets may be purchased at the M-Shop box office or online through MidwesTix. This will be an all ages concert event.
Sixpence None the Richer got their start in the early 1990's in New Braunfels, Texas. The band took its name from a passage from the book Mere Christianity by C. S. Lewis. SNTR's self-titled 1997 pop crossover album went platinum and hit #1 on the Heat and Christian charts. It also produced the #1 smash single "Kiss Me" (see nearby video), as well as the remake of the La's hit "There She Goes" that climbed to #7.
The band's next studio album, Divine Discontent, hit #9 on the Christian chart in 2002. It produced two Top 20 adult contemporary hits, "Breathe Your Name" (#18) and a remake of Crowded House's "Don't Dream It's Over" (#9). Sixpence None the Richer disbanded in 2004, but reunited again in 2007. They released The Dawn of Grace in 2008 and Lost in Transition in August of last year.
