In another blow to the beleaguered Carnival Cruise Lines, a six-year-old boy drowned in the pool of the Carnival Victory yesterday, October 13. Carnival, the world’s largest cruise operator, issued a statement today(sent by email to this Examiner) confirming the incident that read, “Yesterday, Oct. 13, on board the Carnival Victory, while the ship was at sea on the last leg of a four-day Caribbean cruise, a six-year-old boy drowned in the midship pool. He was at the pool area with other family members at the time.” “Carnival extends its heartfelt sympathy to the family during this very difficult time. The company’s CareTeam is providing assistance and support.
According to news sources such as ABC News online, “The Miami-Dade Police Department is investigating the drowning and identified the boy as Qwentyn Hunter of Winter Garden, Florida. Investigators said the boy was with his 10-year-old brother in the pool at the time. Passengers immediately pulled the boy from the water and began CPR, but the child was pronounced dead at the scene.”
Carnival confirmed there were 3,094 passengers on board the ship which arrived this morning (October 14) in PortMiami.
