Monday, six teenagers drowned after falling into a sinkhole in a river in Shreveport, Louisiana; the teens ranged in age from 13-18 years of age and their devastated parents watched from the shoreline unable to help. The teens were part of a group of 20 children that were enjoying the day at the river.
None of the teens knew how to swim, and there was only one life jacket at the scene. One teenager in the group survived after screaming for help from the water. The teens waded in three feet of water into an area of the river that suddenly took a 20 foot drop, according to the Shreveport Fire Department. The teens were part of two families and three of them were brothers.
Local ministers came to the area to offer counseling to the grief-stricken family members.
"Please lift this family up in prayer," said Shreveport Mayor Cedric Glover.
