On Monday 76 players teed it up at Industry Hills Golf Course in hopes of making the 2012 Northern Trust Open Field. While many former big name PGA Tour Professionals were in the field, it was the younger lesser known pros who stole the show. Justin Itzen won the qualifier posting a five under 67. Behind him was Erik Justesen who finished one shot off the lead at four under. Four other players, Will Mackenzie, Craig Barlow, Austin Graham, and PGA Tour regular John Mallinger all finished at three under to advance.
Among the better known players not to make it through qualifying were Jeff Quenney, Vaughn Taylor, Duffy Waldorf, and Lee Janzen. The 2012 Northern Trust Open will tee off Thursday at Riviera Country Club. Included in the field will be world number one Luke Donald, defending champion Aaron Baddeley, and Phil Mickelson fresh off his win a Pebble Beach.
