According to the Canadian Olympic Committee, there will be six Calgarians who will be participating at the 2014 Youth Olympic Games that started Saturday in Nanjing, China. The athletes will be competing in the sports of athletics, modern pentathlon, rugby, shooting and triathlon.

Calgary's track and field athlete is Tegan Wilson who will be competing in the girls' 200m. A member of the Calgary International Track Club and coached by John Cannon, Wilson will start her Youth Olympic Games experience on August 22 with round 1 of the girls' 200m. The finals are scheduled for August 24. According to Lucas Punkari of the Rocky View Weekly, Wilson won the gold medal in the women's 200m in the intermediate division at the Alberta Provincial High School Track and Field Championships in Calgary this past June.

In modern pentathlon, Canada's only representative is Kali Sayers, who won the Youth B women's division at the U.S. Youth National Modern Pentathlon Championships on July 6 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Sayers will be fencing on August 22, and swimming, running and shooting on August 23. This is not a real modern pentathlon because the athletes will not be participating in equestrian.

Calgary's rugby players are Chanelle Edwards-Challenger and Jenna Morrison who will be competing in the girls competition. This is a big time for women's rugby in Canada because the Canadian women are going to be playing England in the Women's Rugby World Cup final on Sunday from Paris. This is the first time that Canada has advanced to the gold medal game of the Women's Rugby World Cup.

In shooting, Calgary's Peter Schulze will be competing in the boys' air pistol. Schulze qualified for the Youth Olympic Games by finishing in second place at a Youth Olympic Games qualifier in Fort Benning, Georgia. Schulze will be participating on August 18.

In triathlon, Calgary's Emily Wagner will be competing in the girls division. Wagner won the gold medal in the women's triathlon at the 2013 Canada Summer Games in Sherbrooke and qualified for Nanjing by placing third in a qualifier in Mexico this past May. The girls triathlon will be on August 17.
