Book #7- My Date With Cancer: 21 Spiritual Lessons
(Volume 3 in a 4-book Cancer Path Series)

Why did I choose 21 spiritual lessons for this picture book? 21 is an important number. Some say it is the number of Spiritual Masters, of the harmony of Creation, of renewal, of the responsibility and maturity of the individual, that there are 21 attributes of wisdom and the word Angel was pronounced by Jesus 21 times. Also, healers say that it takes 21 days to break a habit.

We have a habit of thinking of cancer as a scary death pronouncement that leads to fear, depression and anger. Sometimes it makes us doubt God and our purpose. This makes us harder on ourselves, instead of leading us to more Grace and Love.

But Cancer can go another way. You may not be able to choose whether you have cancer but you can choose your attitude towards it. This can be a path that connects you more with Spirit and your Higher Self, increases your capacity to love, to have faith and to trust and surrender. Cancer can become a path of Spiritual initiation.
I figured that you may not be in the mood to read a whole lot as you go through your cancer treatment. So what follows is a short picture book with 21 spiritual hints that you can flip through to shift your energy from love to fear, if you practice these basic lessons and remind yourself where to focus.

And remember, once focusing on love and divinity becomes a habit, you will see it in everything. Even cancer. This is a huge gift for us as long as we are on this planet.

May you bless and heal yourself and others.

Book #8- Shekhinah

Shekhina is the first children’s book (that’s for adults too) that explores the radiance and love of the Feminine Divine, the Sabbath Bride. The Shekina is G-d’s indwelling presence. She is unconditional love, compassion and forgiveness. An awareness of her gifts can help us incorporate her energy into our daily lives.

Association of Jewish Library Reviews: GOD & PRAYER category.
Sherman, Paulette Kouffman. Shekhina. Illus. by Rachel Shana Vine. New York: Parachute Jump Publishing, 2013. 26 pp. $10.95 (9780985246952) Pbk. Preschool–adult.
Paulette Kouffman Sherman, author and psychologist, portrays Shekhina through a Kabbalistic (Jewish mysticism) viewpoint in her self-published picture book. Sherman characterizes the Shekhina as a female deity, mother, and Sabbath bride. Children will relate to the author’s simple, rhyming text that describes the Shekhina as a nurturing and maternal figure. Adults who practice Kabbalah will also appreciate the symbolism of light and the powers of the divine in the narrative. The sensitive and powerful multimedia illustrations further emphasize the spirituality of Shekhina. Vine painted the background bright yellow to represent the Kabbalistic concept of light. Then she drew over the paint with crayon and colored pencils to make childlike images of the deity, children, and parents. Recommended for Jewish libraries.

-Heather Lenson, Ratner Media & Technology Center, Jewish Education Center of Cleveland and editor of the Jewish Valuesfinder

Shekhina won an Honorable Mention award in the Purple Dragonfly Book Awards, in Spiritual/religious children’s book category.

Book #9- The Create Your Own Cancer Path Workbook

The Create Your Own Cancer Path Workbook is a workbook to help cancer patients keep track of their personal experience and story as they go through a most challenging treatment year. It is a journal/workbook with ideas, springboards and exercises so that they can remember how they got through everything, what and who inspired them, the lessons they learned, and other personal notes. They can use this workbook as a template for writing and publishing their own story later, if they wish. This can also be a legacy for their children, grandchildren, and great-grand children to learn from their story.

Becoming the heroine of your cancer story allows you to reflect on what you’ve learned, what worked and didn’t work for you, where you could grow, the characters in your life and other relevant issues. It encourages you to take control over your life and story.

Research shows that writing is therapeutic for patients with illness and cancer. One oncology study suggested that one 20-minute writing session may change how cancer patients think and feel about their diagnosis and have a positive impact on their quality of life.

We don’t need research to determine if something brings us therapeutic value. Personal experience is the greatest convincer. I wished that there were more journaling or narrative therapy groups offered in hospitals but for those of you who don't have one, this workbook will allow you to start this process anywhere. You can even start your own Create Your Own Cancer Path group with your cancer sisters!

This is also a great gift and transitional object to help a friend recently diagnosed through his/her treatment.
I wish you much love and healing,

Book #11- Dating Advice from “Hi” to “I Do”

Dating can be very confusing, especially if you’re new to it. As a psychologist and dating coach, a dating expert and an author who has written six dating and relationship books, I feel like I’ve been asked every conceivable dating question.

What follows is much of my dating advice.

I’ve divided this dating compendium into 8 major sections: Your Dating Context, First Date Anxiety, Important Dating Considerations, How to Get a Date, Advice for Your Actual Dates, A Few Readers Questions, Advice for Longer-Term Relationships and Dating Advice for the Successful Career Woman.

This is not a traditional how-to book that guides you in a step-by step process from meeting someone to how to get married. Rather, it addresses a variety of dating issues that confuse singles and by addressing these issues it helps singles navigate the dating process from an initial meeting with someone to longer relationship concerns.
Some Dating topics include:

• Your dating attitude
• How to deal with Break-ups
• Reuniting with an ex
• Where to meet someone new
• Making a dating action plan
• Dealing with rejection
• Volume dating
• Where to date over 40
• Common dating mistakes
• How to deal with dating anxiety
• How to have uncomfortable dating conversations
• Long-distance dating

And so much more! Enjoy.

Book #12- Mishkan
A Sensuous, Spiritual Bedtime Story (for adults)

A mishkan: A dwelling place for the Divine presence.
The indwelling presence of God.

Mishkan is a sensuous, spiritual bedtime story for adults. It was written as a poem by Paulette to her husband on their sixth wedding anniversary and was illustrated by Rachel Shana Vine. As parents of two children under four (at the time) Paulette describes the challenge of balancing dark and light in marriage; the physical and spiritual world. Marriage is full of responsibilities so it’s important to remember the underlying light, love and unity. Shekhina (the Feminine Divine in Judaism) also means mishkan, the tent that houses the Divine or the indwelling presence of God. As we source her love we can bring it into our home, our body and our heart, in holy union. Mishkan is a kabbalistic allegory for marrying the physical and spiritual world and for lifting the veil of conflict and illusion to continually rediscover love in our lives.
