Six arrested in Modesto murder case (Photos)

Modesto Police Department personnel have arrested six suspects in connection with a Valentine's Day homicide, the department announced Feb. 15 in an emailed news release.

Gang investigators continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses in regards to yesterday’s fatal shooting. This afternoon, detectives were able to identify several suspects involved in the gang-related assault and fatal shooting of 20-year-old Erick Gomez of Modesto.

On Thursday, at about 8:38 p.m., officers were dispatched to a report of a shooting in the 2400 block of Vera Cruz Drive, in northeast Modesto. When officers arrived, they found Erick Gomez, 20, of Modesto, who suffered from several gunshot wounds.

The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he later died.

"Detectives learned a group consisting of both male and female Sureño criminal street gang members were traveling in several vehicles in the 2400 block of Vera Cruz Drive when they saw Gomez walking," police said. "The suspects believed Gomez was a rival gang member and stopped to confront him. As the suspects exited their vehicles, Gomez attempted to run away. The suspects chased Gomez down and began to physically assault him. During the assault, Gomez was stabbed and shot multiple times before the group of suspects returned to their vehicles and fled the scene."

As officers were on scene investigating the shooting on Vera Cruz Drive, police received a report of a 17-year-old girl who had arrived at a local hospital suffering from critical stab wounds, the department said.

The female stabbing victim had been taken to the hospital by friends. Officers went to the hospital and contacted several individuals who were with the female stabbing victim. The stabbing victim underwent emergency surgery and remains in stable condition.

Investigators believe the stabbing victim and her friends, who were at the hospital, were responsible in the fatal shooting of Gomez. It is still unclear exactly how the 17-year-old obtained her stab wounds and the case remains an open and active investigation.

Suspects were identified as Nancy Rodriguez, 18, of Modesto; Jeanette Robles, 20, of Modesto; Elida Carranza, 21, of Modesto; Jesse James Sebourn, 22, of Ceres; Lisandro Mendoza, 20, of Winton; and Jenna Cheyenne Sebourn, 20, of San Mateo.

All of the suspects were charged with homicide, conspiracy and committing a crime for the benefit of a criminal street gang.
