Six arrested after attack on ATM, police chase ending in crash

Six suspects are in custody after using a van to dislodge an ATM from a drug store in Warren Thursday morning. The suspects lead Warren police on a chase that ended when the van crashed in Detroit.

The criminal episode began shortly after 4:00 a.m. this morning at a CVS branch at 9 Mile and Schoenherr.

The suspects rammed the building with their white van, dislodging the ATM. It is unclear whether they obtained any cash from the machine.

When Warren police showed up, the suspects nearly mowed one of them down in their haste to escape.

The police gave chase.

The pursuit led onto I-94 in Detroit. There the suspect’s van crashed into a police cruiser and went through a guard rail at I-75.

One lane of I-94 was closed near the scene.

The suspects tried to escape on foot, but all were apprehended and arrested.

WDIV-4 reports that this was the second time in about a week that a smash and grab attempt was made at a CVS ATM.

Last Friday a white van damaged the outlet at East Warren and Mack, but failed to dislodge the teller machine.
