Sisu the Afghan Hound sings to the judges

I was thinking about all the great work we did when I was living in New York and I worked with my therapy dog Coco the Love Dog. She worked at several facilities a week but also did remarkably fun things like fashion shows to raise awareness for our volunteer activities.

While Delta Pet Partners does not support dressing dogs up in costume when they are actively working, these types of fundraisers and awareness events are very popular. And Coco did love a good dress up!

Another such dog is Sisu the Afghan Hound. He comes from a long line of champions and his name means “determination” in Finish. How appropriate for a therapy dog.
When you have an exquisite looking dog with the perfect temperament to be a therapy dog, you hit the jackpot.

Sisu lives in New York with his owner Laura Diaz and belongs to a stellar therapy program, Angel on a Leash. He currently volunteers with several Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT) programs including the Jewish Guild for the Blind and is part of the ASPCA’s AAT Program Department, where he helps other dogs and their handlers achieve their goal to become AAT teams.

Now Sisu is on his way to other fame. He is one of ten finalists competing for a spot on the New Yorkie Runway, a celebrity doggie fashion show benefiting Angel on a Leash. The event will take place on February 7 at the New Yorker Hotel in NYC.

When Sisu had his moment with the judges to become a finalist, he did what only an Afghan can do – he sang!

Now it is up to the public to vote for him by January 31 – to vote go to www.newyorkierunway.com/vote.

Few people ever have the chance to meet this majestic breed and fewer are therapy dogs so help support therapy programs across the nation and help the singing Finn win!
