‘Sister Wives’: New season, new houses, new choices

The new season of “Sister Wives” premiered on Sunday night, December 29th on TLC at 9 PM ET. The show follows the everyday life of a polygamist family living in Las Vegas, NV. Kody Brown has four wives, 17 children and four new homes, all located in a cul-de-sac next to each other.

The polygamist lifestyle of the Brown’s has met with a lot of controversy and they were even threatened with jail at one point. TLC gives the audience a small peek into the dynamics of living a polygamist lifestyle and a glimpse at how hard it is for Kody Brown to have four wives, parent 17 children and keep everyone happy and stress free.

Though many people are against the lifestyle of the Browns and publicly attack them, other folks support their choices and find the show to be interesting and educational. The premiere episode of “Sister Wives” showed the Brown’s settling into their four new homes, all next to each other, and once again getting used to life of all of them living so close together.

Children from the various moms ran back and forth from house to house enjoying spending time together once again. The four moms parent all of the children as if they were their own, though each child does live with their own biological mother.

Meri, who is Kody’s first wife, only has one child who is about to leave home for college. She is feeling extremely left out because the other three wives have several small children to parent on a daily basis. Meri has been unable to have more children and discusses the possibility with Cody of seeing a doctor to help her have another. She is saddened when Kody tells her “No.”

It’s not that Kody doesn’t want more children; it is the fact that he doesn’t agree, or believe, in the idea of creating a child “artificially.” Meri, as the oldest wife and soon to be empty-nester, is unsure of her position or importance in the family and discusses the situation with Robin, Kody’s fourth wife.

It seems the four wives have paired off in their friendships. Meri and Robin are quite close, as are Christine and Janelle. In a show last season, Robin, who knew how badly Meri wanted another child, even offered to be a surrogate for Meri and Kody.

Sunday night’s premiere episode brought in the mother’s-in-law for a visit and they explained their polygamist lives to the Brown wives and audience. Tearfully, Robin’s Mother even explained her choices for leaving polygamy.
