On April 19, 2014, Patrick Stewart made a quick visit to Salt Lake City to participate in Salt Lake Comic Con’s FanX. During his panel given to over 5,000 audience members, Stewart discussed his connection with Refuge.

“I am a patron of a British organization called Range,” says Stewart. “It made a vivid impact on me.”

Stewart would gather up donations to take to the Range home near where he lived.

“When we knocked on the front door, you would hear, for what seemed like half a minute, bolts being drawn,” says Stewart. These women really needed to feel safe and protected. “The most critical thing they have is an SOS line.” Places in the United States have this type of line as well.

Refuge is going to expand its mission to include women and slavery and female genital mutilation.

In Utah, the YWCA is one organization that offers services for women and children facing domestic violence. The Utah Domestic Violence Coalition offers a help line at 1-800-897-LINK (5465).
