Oxford University has announced it will award Sir George Martin an honorary degree.
“I am delighted to receive this accolade from Oxford University. I’ve been lucky enough to work with brilliant collaborators from many fields of music and the arts in my life, and am honoured to be joining the distinguished ranks of those receiving honorary degrees at Oxford," Martin said in a statement.
Besides producing the Beatles, Martin has worked in a wide variety of music spanning rock, classical, showtunes and comedy.
In 1988, Sir George Martin was appointed Commander of the British Empire (CBE) by the Queen for his services to the music industry. He also received an honorary doctorate of music from Boston's Berklee College of Music.
In July 1992, he was awarded an honorary degree of master of arts at Salford University, England. He was also the first recipient of an honorary doctorate from Sweden's Lund University and the Malmö Academy of Music last year.
