Sir Elton John welcomes new baby boy

On Tuesday, Sir Elton John and David Furnish announced the arrival of a new addition to their family, Elijah Joseph Daniel Furnish-John, a healthy 8lb 4oz baby boy, and a brother for Elton and David’s 2 year old son Zachary. Both children were conceived through a surrogate mother.

Speaking exclusively with Helloonline, the happy couple said:

"Both of us have longed to have children, but the reality that we now have two sons is almost unbelievable. The birth of our second son completes our family in a most precious and perfect way. It is difficult to fully express how we are feeling at this time; we are just overwhelmed with happiness and excitement."

After 12 years together, the 65 year old Sir Elton and the 50 year old Furnish, discussed extending their family last summer. The couple has been married since 2005.

In 2009 the couple in a widely watched adoption case were denied the ability to adopt a 14 month old Ukrainian child who tested HIV-positive. According to Ukrainian law it’s required that a parent be no more than 45 years older than an adopted child. Marital status was also stated as another reason for the denial.

At the time, adoption and gay rights advocates expressed regret about the determination by Family, Youth and Sports Minister Yuriy Pavlenko.
