Sinkhole confirmed rare for Masters Edition 4 (ME4)

Sinkhole has been confirmed for Magic: The Gathering Online's Masters Edition 4 (ME4), spoiled over at PureMTGO.  Sinkhole, one of Magic: The Gathering's most dangerous and aggressively priced land destruction spells, makes a return to the ring to spice up the online Legacy environment.

Sinkhole

Sorcery - Common (Now Rare for ME4)

Destroy target land.

Simple and sleek, Sinkhole has been rarity shifted for obvious reasons - Having a land destruction spell in the common slot for two mana would absolutely skew the drafting field.

Wizards of the Coast has been rather shy in recent years with the printing of land destruction in general, likely to dissuade players from a style of play that while completely legitimate, can make games completely one-sided and often "unfun".

Sinkhole as a rare in ME4 will make it an interesting rare to pick up in draft, but it won't likely be a first pick by any means (Pure educated speculation, as we've seen very little of the set thus far).  However, with 105 rares in ME4, Sinkhole may retain considerably high value depending on the rest of the set, as a 2 mana land destruction spell is certainly valuable in Legacy play.

The fact that we've seen some serious Legacy cards in the very limited spoilers that have come to light speaks volumes - ME4 is likely to be jam packed with powerful cards, as opposed to some of the Fallen Empires fodder and Homelands hodgepodge that rubbed shoulders with dual lands in the earlier Masters Editions.

Magic: The Gathering's Sinkhole is back and out for land - and this time, it's digital.
