The Mt. Washington Tavern (MWT) is hosting its 1st Annual Grilled Cheese Sandwich Cook-Off on Sunday, April 10, 2011. From 2-4 pm the public will be able to see top local chefs and home cooks battle it out for the best grilled cheese sandwich plus, enjoy a tasting of the contestants’ sandwiches. The public and local celebrities will judge the sandwiches for cash prizes ranging from $100 - $700. Categories include: Best Professional, Best Home Cook, Crowd Pleaser and Kid’s Choice.
Charity partner, Moveable Feast, will obtain all of the proceeds from the $10 entry fee (children 10 and under are free), which includes the cook-off and grilled cheese tasting. Plus, one complimentary signature cocktail designed by the MWT bartenders created to pair perfectly with a grilled cheese sandwich.
There will be two competitions, one for the already secured local celebrity chefs and one for home cooks. Home cooks are invited to submit their original recipe for a chance to compete in the finals on April 10. Six chefs and three home cooks will take on the challenge live at the Tavern. To date, confirmed chefs include: Bill Crouse of Slainte in Fells Point, Matt Milani of The Rumor Mill in Ellicott City and Chad Gauss of City Café in Mount Vernon, Patrick Crooks of Roy’s Restaurant and Darrick Granai of Baldwin Station.

Moveable Feast is a charitable organization that provides life-sustaining nutrition at no charge to people living with HIV/AIDS and breast cancer throughout Greater Baltimore and Maryland’s Eastern Shore. They also offer nutritional counseling, culinary skills training, transportation support and other services to help their clients heal and grow.
