Sink won't debate anyone, so Jolly won't debate Overby

Showing disrespect for Pinellas County voters, two candidates for U.S. House District 13 cancelled a planned debate scheduled for 2:00 p.m. yesterday at Westminster Palms on Beach Drive in St. Petersburg, Florida. At first Alex Sink cancelled which was little surprise after losing her previous debate between her two opponents, Lucas Overby and David Jolly. Then, without Sink to make him look good, Jolly bowed out at the last minute, leaving only Overby willing to stand for District 13 voters. According to viewers of an earlier debate on Bay News 9, Overby won the debate between Sink and Jolly in the special election scheduled for March 11, 2014.

Jolly feared debating only Overby as in the last debate Jolly was quoted as saying, "He's smarter than me." Overby is running on all cylinders while Jolly and Sink try to catch up to his youthful pace and how his ideas are resonating with voters. While Overby is in sync with what district 13 voters want (i.e. medical marijuana, getting rid of corporate welfare, protecting gun rights), in the last debate it became apparent Jolly and Sink were not...well...in sync with what voters value in Congressional District 13.

Jolly left it open that he would not oppose additional gun control on gun owners, which shocked fellow Republicans and he was not for legalization of cannabis. Sink shocked fellow Democrats when it became apparent she was only for medical marijuana under a very long list of conditions.

The cancelled debate was a disappointment for the organizer, former St. Petersburg City Council member Connie Kone, as she put much time and effort to put on a quality forum for the candidates. A request for a quote from her went unanswered at the time of publishing this article. According to the Pinellas County Supervisor of Elections website, this was the last scheduled candidate forum for the Congressional District 13 race.
