“Sinister 2” is the sequel to the 2013 micro-budget hit directed by Scott Derrikson. The film brought in $77 million in box office with only a mere $3 million production budget, scary numbers.
The original film followed a true crime writer played by Ethan Hawke who uncovers a stock of 8mm films in his attic that reveals that the murders he is researching are the work of a serial killer and the discovery of the tapes threatens his family.
Derrickson will return to write the sequel with original “Sinister” writing partner, C. Robert Cargill. “Citadel” helmer Ciaran Foy will be taking over directing duties as Derrickson is busy prepping “Doctor Strange” for Marvel Studios.
Producing the film is Jason Blum under his Blumhouse Productions banner, which is fresh off the success of “The Purge: Anarchy,” which opened to $28.4 million. Derrickson is also producing along Blum.
eOne Entertainment will finance the horror sequel, with the film releasing alongside Warner Bros. “Me Before You.”
No word yet as to how Mr. Boogie will terrorize moviegoers next summer, but it’ll more than likely be another hit for Blum who has cornered the market in micro-budgeted horror films.
