As Chicagoland’s low-lying areas struggle to recover from the recent flooding, not helped by last night’s additional rain, PetMD.com raised a completely unrelated caution for pet owners: another product recall.

This time, the recall follows the discovery of mold in a single lot of dog biscuits manufactured by Breeder’s Choice, a Central Garden & Pet company. Breeder’s Choice issued a voluntary recall for a single batch of Active Care Biscuits-Healthy Dog Treats, 24 oz. size:
Product Code/SKU/ Material #: BCP-080
UPC Code: 0130104895
Best Before Code: 19/Dec/2013

This is the only product and product lot affected. According to the manufacturer, varying temperature settings in the process for drying the biscuits appears to have allowed the mold growth by leaving excess moisture in the recalled lot. The problem has been corrected.

Pet owners who have already fed their pets the recalled biscuits should watch for symptoms that may develop because of mold exposure. These include gastrointestinal issues such as loose stool. No reports of human or pet illnesses associated with the recalled product had been reported at the time of the recall announcement.
