Another year. Another Valentine's Day.
If you're single on Valentine's Day, it's like you are some sort of social anomaly - some flawed creature who hasn't found love yet. But if you are over 40 and single on Valentine's Day, someone might as well just slap you in the face and say, "Hey, it's another year and you're older, and you are STILL single."
Ouch. That stings.... so, what do you start thinking? You go inward. You look in the mirror and notice the gray hairs popping up....ugh, you see your decollete is wrinkling...you start focusing on outward flaws and start thinking "why would anyone want THIS, when there are younger beauties out there."
Well, I'm here to tell you fab ladies over 40 who are single that that is a mental TRAP. Sure, we all have flaws, but the prettiest girls are the ones with CONFIDENCE. Own it, work what you've got and be proud! Chances are, you will definitely still stay single if you stay in the depression zone over your aging or looks.
Why are we all so caught up on age and youth anyway?
I found myself in this trap the other day while looking at my friend's 18 year old daughter's flawless skin. It gave me a jolt that said hey, did I have that skin when I was 18? I was comparing my over 40 hands to this 18 year old youthful hands and being a little envious...... well, HELLO I'm over 40. My hands don't look like that anymore. But hey, with housecleaning and gardening, and typing, and all that my hands have done throughout my lifetime, my hands have been a hell of a lot more productive than an 18 year old's as well..that's called EXPERIENCE and accomplishment.
Sure, I'm like you. Sometimes the store clerk calls me "Miss" and that's a good day....and sometimes the store clerk calls me "Ma'am" but THAT can be a good day too. I STILL get a little pissed off when the "Ma'am" is issued, but I'm now at the point where that wears off in about 10 minutes. LOVE it when I get carded tho, don't you?
Losing youth and still haven't found love? The fact of the matter is, if you find the right person, they won't care about a few laugh lines or wrinkles - they will accept you for who you are and love you just the same. They will BE there for you on the good days when you are called "Miss" and feeling high....and on the bad days when you're down or depressed and wishing your brown spots would magically disappear.
Valentine's Day is a love it or hate it holiday, that's for sure.
But, love it or hate it -- everybody wins!!

This goes to show you that Valentine's Day and the month of February does has its benefits in savings.
So, THIS Valentine's Day, I'm gonna totally embrace my age and the fact that I'm single. I'm actually THANKFUL for being single, cuz the men I've been with just haven't measured up. I mean, come on, an E-CARD for Valentine's Day? FAIL. Zero effort to find out when my birthday is after dating me for 5 months? FAIL. Flirting with women on Facebook being more importrant than me and my feelings cuz you are trying to be a rockstar at 50? Uhhhhh....let me check - FAIL.
So, let's unite in the fact that we are worthy and have value even if we are over 40 and have a little wear and tear...and unite ourselves in the knowledge that some wear and tear can be dissolved if we choose to do so and have the budget...and if we are older and single this year on Valentine's Day this year, let's remember that we are just....selective and WISE! And CONFIDENT and worthy of course.
