Seasoned Broadway and opera singers James Anest and Sean McDermott formed The Amazing Waiters. Orange County resident Anest performed extensively in Europe, on Broadway and locally with the Los Angeles Opera and at the famed Hollywood singers’ showcase, Miceli’s Restaurant. He freelanced in the United States and abroad as a singing waiter prior to establishing The Amazing Waiters, an act that continues to take on new dimensions.

To assemble his shows, Anest draws from a pool of professional talent with whom he has worked over the years. The Amazing Waiters are often joined onstage by other singers, instrumentalists and entertainers of all kinds. Audiences might be treated to two waiters and a soprano, two waiters and an honest to goodness world-class chef, three operatic tenors in the tradition of that other well-known trio, or a waiter duo or solo strolling singer, in case three waiters might prove to be a little too amazing.

“We’re always pushing the envelope,” said Anest, adding that he, personally, enjoys moving the art forward, increasing visibility for singers and other performers. When a client requested a mash-up of selections from “The Phantom of the Opera” and the Gnarls Barkley tune, “Crazy”, they pulled it off much to the delight of their audience. For another occasion, the singers worked with a band and four glamorous violinists.

The special requests are all a matter of course for the entrepreneur who said he is happy not to be artistically confined. “We put these voices and musicians together. We do it our way and it works.”

Another new and interesting entertainment option involves real live singing Greco-Roman statues. The human sculptures form a tableau, adding decorative ambiance to the room. The statues then proceed to surprise audience and guests with a chiseled-in-stone performance, buffed to a high polish.

“We’re right on the cutting edge. There’s so much more that we can do,” said Anest, who works hard to get the word out that The Amazing Waiters are not your average singing waiters.

The Amazing Waiters perform countrywide. And, if you need sound design, they do that.
