USA Today reported today that the singing phenom “feels relief at finally having the right label for her condition.”

Although only making her revelation public today, the 52-year-old Boyle was diagnosed about a year ago by a specialist who informed her that she also had an above-average IQ.

Boyle said that she struggled during a childhood plagued with learning difficulties as a result of being oxygen deprived at birth. School was difficult for her she said, and so was being bullied by her classmates.

"Now I have a clearer understanding of what's wrong and I feel relieved and a bit more relaxed about myself."

Boyle went on to say that her diagnosis has given her a better understanding of the struggles she’s had to contend with, and hopefully others could also now better understand why she is the way she is.

"I would say I have relationship difficulties, communicative difficulties, which lead to a lot of frustration. If people were a bit more patient, that would help."

"Asperger's doesn't define me. It's a condition that I have to live with and work through, but I feel more relaxed about myself. People will have a much greater understanding of who I am and why I do the things I do."

When Boyle first appeared on “Britain's Got Talent,” she surprised the viewers and the judges of the show with an operatic voice that was in direct contradiction to her physical appearance and modest manner.

Before she was even done singing her introductory song, "I Dreamed a Dream" from “Les Misérables,” she was being given a standing ovation.

Her 2009 debut album, “I Dreamed a Dream,” quickly became the best-selling album of all time in Britain.
