Singer Vita Chambers is only fifteen years-old and she is already hitting the big time opening for Justin Bieber on his current tour. In March of this year, Chambers released her first EP, which contains five songs, entitled ‘The Get Go.’ Available on iTunes, she is already collecting a stable fan base who are salivating at the bit just waiting for more!
To be honest, upon hearing her name, I did a little research on Google on the rising star. Her Wikipedia page tells her date of birth, which is October 4th of 1995. I did a double take! Either this writer is getting old, or Miss Chambers is very young. She has accomplished so much and come so far in her life and she is quite an inspiration for anyone at any age.
Chambers had no ties to the world of entertainment and no connections in the music industry, but the girl from Barbados had a dream and a voice that would help her to obtain that dream. She also had the smarts to upload a video of herself singing cover tunes on YouTube. What happened next is really the stuff of dreams. Newly signed to SRP Records/Universal Motown, she is on her way to the type of success few truly ever experience.
Dana Feldman - I read that you posted a video of yourself singing cover songs on YouTube and that shortly thereafter, you were signed to SRP Records/Universal Motown. Did you ever think that posting that video of yourself would lead to this?
Vita Chambers - OMG, never! I posted my songs so that I can share my love for music with my friends, I was not expecting a record deal from it!! I was absolutely shocked.
DF - What is it like to be only fifteen and opening for a major act like Justin Bieber? When does the tour start and where will you be going?
VC - It's a dream come true! I literally couldn't ask for anything better. I'm on the second leg of the tour so I start on July 28th in Kansas City, Missouri! I'm gonna be hitting up a lot of the south, then go all the way up to Canada, but back down the east coast. Ahhh, I'm thrilled!
DF - What was the inspiration for your newly released EP entitled 'The Get Go' which was released in March of this year?
VC - Since I'm a new artist, I want to put out great music with a positive message. I want to reach out to kids with a song that they can party to, have fun, and take home empowering messages. This album is all about having fun and living life to the fullest!
DF - What was it like when you had your first big hit single 'Young Money' in March of this year?
VC - When I first heard 'Young Money' on the radio, I was in the car with my friends and I almost fell out the window! Then I went home that night and heard it again on TV, OMG it honestly was one of the best days of my life! I'm so happy people love the song as much as I do.
DF - What is your second single 'Like Boom' about?
VC - 'Like Boom' is the newest slang to say how cool something is. If you're shopping and you see a sick pair of jeans, you'd say they're LIKE BOOM! Or if there's that guy you're crushin’ on and he walks into the room, it's LIKE BOOM!
DF - How would you describe your sound/voice?
VC - Straight up pop rock! All of my songs have a rock n’ roll vibe with a pop undertone.
DF - Any advice for other singers / musicians out there who are striving to achieve what you have?
VC - Don't ever give up, keep your head up, and don't stop believing.
DF - Do you write all of your songs? What, if any, instruments do you play?
VC - I do write songs! I've been very fortunate to work with the coolest producers in the biz, I learn so much from them. Carl Sturken, one of my producers, has been giving me guitar lessons everyday. I think I'm starting to get pretty good!
DF - Being from Barbados, what is it like to be in the same league as such superstars as Rihanna and Shontelle, who are both also signed to the same labels?
VC - It's such an honor. Not only am I proud to be from the same country as Rihanna and Shontelle, but we also get to represent the same label! I hope one day to be as successful with my music as the both of them. They will always be my inspirations, and friends for life.
