Thrilled to be making her film debut in "The Christmas Candle," singer Susan Boyle wants just one thing for Christmas: A dog to help her lose weight. She's set a goal of losing about 30 pounds, reported the Mirror on Dec. 8.
At 52, Susan is delighted to have the chance to show off her acting skills.
"I went to acting school years ago and have always wanted to act. I want to do more films and of course I’d love to get to Hollywood," she confessed.
But to succeed in the entertainment industry, Susan feels that she needs to shed some weight.
"I've been dieting ever since I was a kid," admitted Susan. But now she knows exactly where she wants to shed the pounds.
"I just want to lose a bit off my bum. I’m over 12st (12 stones, the equivalent of 168 pounds) now and I want to try to get down to 10st (140 pounds). I did lose some a couple of years ago then I put it all back on," Susan said.
Susan knows her downfall: Sweet treats.
"I always end up stuffing my face with sweeties or something," Susan revealed.
“I’m not supposed to have them since I was diagnosed with diabetes. It runs in our family, and I am on medication but I still haven’t been able to resist eating the odd chocolate."
So Susan has a fitness plan that involves a furry friend: She wants to get a dog.
"I’m not sure what kind, but a small fluffy one that I can take for walks to get all the exercise I need," Susan explained.
"That will help me to lose the weight.”
And there are studies to back her belief that a dog will help. A new study at the University of Missouri-Columbia, for example, revealed that having a pet can encourage owners to get more exercise and results in more weight loss than most nationally known diet plans.
