Singer Pink loves her body, and said she's fitter and healthier than ever at 34 despite carrying around an extra 10 pounds.
"I'm in the best shape of my life," Pink told Who. "I'm a person who could always lose a couple [pounds] here and there, but I would rather be strong than bony."
Pink, who posed nude for the Australian magazine cover, said she's 10 pounds heavier than she was before giving birth to daughter Willow in 2011. Still, she looks fantastic, thanks to a mostly vegan diet and rigorous near-daily workouts.
Pink, whose real name is Alecia Moore, said she's a big eater who gorged with abandon during her pregnancy. “I put on 60 pounds and I was huge,” she said. “I’m terrible when it comes to food. I’m the kind of girl who says she’s not going to eat bread and then I eat an entire loaf.”
Circuit Training and Bikram Yoga Workouts
Pink, who's hailed for her rippling abs, said there is no shortcut to being fit. It takes good old-fashioned diet and exercise. "I have to work out a lot,” she said. “That’s the only way to do it. I do an hour and a half a day for five days a week, plus all my rehearsals.”
The singer's workouts typically combine cardio exercise, fat-burning circuit training, running and hiking. Pink said most of her workouts are focused on building a strong core, and insists she needs to exercise a lot to counteract some of her high-calorie binges.
Even when she's not touring, Pink stays active every day by hiking or running, saying exercise lifts her spirits. "Even when you're not in the mood, it's worth motivating yourself to do something," she said.
Pink said she recently became a fan of hot yoga (also known as Bikram yoga), which proponents say enhances weight loss, alleviates depression, and has anti-aging health benefits such as relieving arthritis and joint pain.
Despite her edgy image, Pink is actually a homebody who is a fan of the reality-TV cooking shows. She also loves to cook healthy vegetarian dishes at home for her family. "My go-to carbs are couscous and quinoa, and brown rice," she said. "We also have a big garden. That’s where I get the arugula for my yummy salad, which I make with sautéed asparagus, halloumi cheese, and lemon juice and truffle oil.”
Vegan Diet Touted For Weight Loss and Heart Health
While Pink occasionally eats fish and chicken, she follows a mostly vegan diet, which has been touted for its anti-aging health and weight-loss benefits.
Other celebrity vegans include Demi Moore, Jared Leto, Samuel L. Jackson, Bill Clinton, Al Sharpton, and Michelle Pfeiffer. They have all credited the plant-based diet for giving them more energy, helping them lose weight, and staying youthful-looking,
Experiencing easy weight loss and improved health on a vegan diet isn't surprising to medical experts like Dr. Joel Fuhrman. “The more greens you eat, the more weight you will lose,” said Fuhrman, author of The End of Dieting.
Dr. David Katz, author of Disease-Proof, agrees. “If you shift to a diet more about plant-based foods, you are likelier to live healthier and experience less chronic disease," said Katz, director of Yale University’s Prevention Research Center.
