Jason Brock is making a temporary farewell to San Francisco this Friday as he brings his “All That Jazz” show to Society Cabaret at 8pm.
It’s been quite a whirlwind for the “X Factor” finalist as his career has really taken off since he finished with the competition show two years ago.
Brock has had gigs at about every joint in town and had also returned to “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” as well as performed in “The Rocky Horror Show” with Peaches Christ and several fund raising concerts.
At one such concert he met with Kim Nalley, who has long been a popular cabaret artist in San Francisco, especially with her uncanny recreation of Billie Holiday.
“I had seen her on concert,” Brock says, “but we actually did meet until one day after I was performing in San Francisco,” adding they became fast friends when they both performed at a semi-annual Richmond/Ermet “Help is On the Way” AIDS fundraisers. From that, a show was born.
Brock and Nalley will perform jazz classics from the great American songbook in their concert at Society Cabaret including a duet on the haunting “Summertime.” But you know with a big voice like Brock’s and the word “jazz” in the show title, it will not be a night of just ballads. Brock promises a great mix of jazz and cabaret favorites.
Brock departures San Francisco, for now, on a high note. Society Cabaret has become the new acclaimed venue of quality performers, equally matched with excellent cocktails and food, and with no required minimum.
After leaving the city, Brock will end up at New York’s 54 Below…but that’s another story.
