Singer Chely Wright is expecting twins. The country singer is pregnant with identical twins. On Jan. 23, ABC News confirmed that Wright and her wife, Lauren Blitzer-Wright, will be welcoming the babies this summer.
"They are due in July, but with identical twins you typically have to deliver a month early. When gay couples have babies, it’s logistically a little different than when straight people have babies, as we all know. It’s been an [amazing] experience. We’re excited to be parents. We hope we don’t mess it up too badly," Wight said when she made the big announcement on Howard Bragman’s YouTube show, "Gwissues."
When any singer is expecting twins, the news is pretty big. However, in today's world, the news is even bigger when a gay couple is expecting. As Wight says, there is something "amazing" about the whole thing. There are plenty of gay couples who have children -- Rosie O'Donnell and Michelle Rounds welcomed a daughter earlier this month -- and Elton John and David Furnish welcomed their second son. Being in a gay relationship does not limit people from having children in this day and age -- and that's pretty amazing.
"Even learning about the reproductive systems and how that works … you learn so many things," Blitzer-Wright said. And she is right.
The singer expecting twins and her wife have been married since Aug. 2011. Chely is carrying the babies.
