Singer-songwriter Anastacia announced Wednesday that health reasons have prompted her to cancel all appearances and travel until further notice. According to a statement, the 44-year-old was diagnosed with breast cancer. This fight comes a decade after her first battle with the disease.
The cancellations affect a planned performance in Dubai and an upcoming European tour.
Anastascia, whose full name is Anastacia Lyn Newkirk, has had multi-platinum album sales in Europe and Australia, but has experienced only minor success in her native U.S. She was scheduled to perform March 30 at the Dubai World Cup and was expected to launch her European tour in London on April 6.
The pop star successfully battled breast cancer in 2003, when she was just 34. That experience prompted her to create The Anastacia Fund, which helps raise awareness for women under the age of 35 to get mammograms.
According to national statistics, approximately 211,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer every year and more than 40,000 die from the disease.
