Danny Zelisko Presents and Live Nation announced today that Billy Joel will perform at the US Airways Center in Phoenix, on Sunday, June 1, 2014 at 8 p.m. The appearance is one of only a handful of concerts that Joel currently has scheduled for the western United States in 2014.

The June 1 appearance will be Joel’s sixth at the US Airways Center. All five previous appearances at the arena were sell outs.

Joel will add another first to his Phoenix resume. On November 11, 1999, Joel was the first act to ever play at The Desert Sky Pavilion, now known as the Ak-Chin Pavilion. On June 1, 2014, Joel will be the first entertainer to be enshrined as a US Airways Center Entertainment Legend.

Much like the Ring of Honor that exists in the US Airways Center to honor members of the Phoenix Suns organization, under a newly created honorarium, entertainers that have brought to the arena exceptional showmanship will now be enshrined as a US Airways Center Entertainment Legend. With five and no doubt soon to be six sell out performances, Joel was an easy candidate to be the first entertainer so honored.

Not that honors are any stranger to Joel. Joel has received six Grammy Awards, has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame and has sold over 150 million albums making him the sixth best-selling recording artist of all time and the third highest selling solo artist.

With songs such as “Just the Way You Are,” “My Life,” and “Uptown Girl,” all in all, Joel has had an incredible 26 songs that have reached the top ten on the United States Adult Contemporary chart. And has anyone been able to escape a karaoke night where somebody didn’t try and sing Joel’s “Piano Man?”

If Billy Joel’s induction as the initial US Airways Center Entertainment Legend isn’t historic enough, June 1 also will mark promoter Danny Zelisko’s 40th anniversary as a presenter of shows in Phoenix. From his first booking of the Mahavishnu Orchestra back in 1974, through Billy Joel, Zelisko, as founder of Evening Star Productions, later as President and Chairman of Live Nation Southwest and now as head of Danny Zelisko Presents, is responsible for bringing more rock acts to the Phoenix area than any other individual.

Tickets for Billy Joel’s June 1, 2014 US Airways Center concert will go on sale to the general public on Friday, January 31, 2014 at 10 a.m. Tickets are expected to be priced from $49.50 to $119.50 plus all applicable fees. A presale will be available for American Express Card Members beginning Monday, January 27, 2014 at 10 a.m. Tickets are available through ticketmaster.com or through the US Airways Center box office.
