GREASE SING-A-LONG returns to the Castro Theatre for what has become a Memorial Day weekend tradition. From Friday, May 23 through Monday, May 26, audiences will don their best GREASE-inspired costumes and warm up their vocal chords to participate in this much-anticipated special event.
Although we all know and love the original high school musical which pairs John Travolta as irresistible bad-boy greaser and Olivia Newton-John as the 1950s good girl who falls for him, GREASE SING-A-LONG takes the musical experience one step further: This special screening of the 1978 classic features tricked-out subtitles so that the whole audience can sing along — to “You're the One That I Want,” “Greased Lightnin’,” “Hopelessly Devoted to You,” “Summer Nights,” and all.
Hosted by Laurie Bushman and Sara Moore, the interactive event includes goody bags to get the audience in the Rydell High school spirit. Movie-goers are encouraged to dress up as their favorite character from the film, and can compete to win prizes in the costume contest. Family-friendly afternoon shows will feature kids in costume on parade.
Each show will be preceded by a 30-minute concert featuring organist David Hegarty on the Castro’s Mighty Wurlitzer.
