Love musicals and wish you could get together with others who want to belt out a song. In December and January, two theaters will be offering sing-alongs.

First is the fifth annual "Fiddler on the Roof" sing-a-long Christmas Eve experience sponsored by the Laemmle Theaters. The program has proved to popular that it has been expanded. Now on Christmas Eve (Dec. 24) at 7:30 p.m. you can sing about Tevye and his daughters at six different locations: Royal, Town Center, Claremont, NoHo, Music Hall and the Pasadena Playhouse.

Norman Jewison's 1971 screen adaptation of the Broadway musical won three Oscars (Best Sound, Best Music and Best Cinematography). Each screening will have an MC and the audience will learn about "Fiddler" history while competing for prizes in trivia contests.

Creator of the Fiddler program and the theater’s own Greg Laemmle will be among the hosts.

“(For Jews and others) Christmas Eve isn’t just Chinese food anymore,” says Greg Laemmle with a grin. “We invite all those in the community who don’t traditionally celebrate Christmas to come join us as we extend the holiday spirit though the joy of film and song,” he adds.

Those who wish to attend the program are advised to purchase their tickets in advance at www.Laemmle.com/fiddler. The program has traditionally sold to capacity and has been extended to more locations in 2013 to meet with demand.

Audiences are encouraged to dress as their favorite characters from the film, and to lend their voices to the classic soundtrack (as the words to the songs are projected up on the screen). As an added bonus for the opening night show, (Friday, January 10th at 7:45 pm), there will be a costume contest along with special opening night surprises. El Capitan guests may also go “Behind the scenes” of the making of “Mary Poppins” with rarely seen unit photography from the Walt Disney Archives and a special “Walking On Cherry Tree Lane” photo opportunity on display thorough the engagement.

Originally released in 1964, “Mary Poppins” represented the pinnacle of Walt Disney’s filmmaking and storytelling career, and the film went on to receive a supercalifragilistic 13 Oscar® nominations. It won Academy Awards® for Best Actress (Julie Andrews), Best Song (“Chim Chim Cher-ee”), Best Original Musical Score, Best Film Editing, and Best Visual Effects.

Daily showtimes are 10:00 am, 1:15 pm, 4:30 pm, and 7:45pm. Special General Admission ticket price of $10 includes popcorn. VIP price of $20 includes a reserved seat, popcorn and drink (for all ages). Tickets are available at the box office, on-line at www.elcapitantickets.com or by calling 1-800-DISNEY6.
