Simpson and Ledbetter named MAC Players of the Week

After winning the Red & Black Tournament in Louisville, two RedHawks were named MAC Softball Players of the Week. Shortstop Kayla Ledbetter was named MAC East Division Player of the Week for the first weekly award of her career, while Jessica Simpson was named Pitcher of the Week for the second consecutive week.

Ledbetter hit .462 for the week (6 for 13), with an OBP of .650 thanks to the seven walks she drew. She drove in 4 RBIs, two of which came on her first career home run. She also had one stolen base.

Simpson pitched in four of the 'Hawks' five games in the Red & Black Tournament, making starts in three of them. She was the winning pitcher in all four of Miami's victories, improving her season record to 6-2. She pitched complete games in all three of her starts, and shut out Wright State and Southern Illinois-Edwardsville. In 23 innings of work, she struck out 26 batters and allowed just four earned runs for a 1.22 ERA. To top it all off, a 2-for-3 day at the plate Sunday against the Cougars included a two-run home run, the first of her career.
