'Tis the season for decorating homes with holiday cheer. Andrea Evans, home design and decorating expert, has lots of tips and tricks so that even the most "decorating challenged" person can create a holiday haven in their homes this year.
Before all else, Evans, owner of In the Pink Boutique, a hip new Internet home decor venue that is as charming and trendy as any boutique you'll find in Chicago's toniest suburbs, recommends using lots of fun, bright colors. "Be sure to enjoy yourself while decorating, it should not be seen as a task or burden, but an exciting time for you to enjoy decorating."
1. Pick a theme. Choose between two and three main colors to keep in consistent. Try silver, blue, and white; gold, brown, and red; or green, pink, and silver. Just be creative, having a unified theme helps the look to flow from room to room.
2. Use lots of candles! Switch out your everyday candles with glittered, colored, or LED timed candles to bring out the colors of the season! Using neutral candleholders and seasonal candles is an inexpensive, easy way to set up for the season!
3. Go for some glitz with colored mercury glass, sequins, beads, jewels, and metallic accents around your home and on your Christmas tree. These glitzy items can also be used around chargers, plates, and wine glasses!
4. Too add glamour and drama to your Christmas décor, hang big, gorgeous ornaments from your chandeliers! This fun touch is a great way to really dramatize your existing home décor without switching out the entire decoration.
5. Add intensity to your mantel. Rather than using ordinary garland, choose garland that has sparkle to it! Find beaded or crystal garland, and glass vases filled with ornaments or candles. Be sure to have varying heights, having a range of different heights adds dimension and texture!
