Simon Cowell's son Eric (who was born in New York City on Feb. 14, 2014) has inspired a newborn baby character that has been written into "The X Factor" musical "I Can't Sing!" According to an article published by the Daily Mirror on March 20, 2014: "The script has been edited this week to now include a showbiz debut for Eric and the Simon Cowell character appears on stage holding a baby."

Nigel Harman plays the "Simon" character in the West End musical "I Can't Sing!," which is scheduled to open at the London Palladium on March 26, 2014. Cowell is one of the producers of the musical.

Meanwhile, the Daily Mirror also reported that it took Cowell a little more than a month for him to get around to having his mother, Julie, meet baby Eric. The meeting took place the week of March 17, 2014.

An unnamed source told the Daily Mirror: "It was a lovely visit from Simon and Lauren and Julie was thrilled. There were some very emotional moments when she got to hold and touch Eric and his name is obviously very poignant for Julie as her husband Eric died in 1999.”

According to several other media outlets and paparazzi photos, Cowell and his girlfriend Lauren Silverman (who is Eric's mother) went to Miami 10 days after Eric was born so that Lauren Silverman's parents could spend time with the baby.

The Daily Mirror did not report why it took so long for Julie Cowell (who is 88) to meet her grandson Eric, who is named after Simon's father, who died of a heart attack in 1999. Simon also certainly has the money to make the necessary arrangements to have his mother meet his first child.

He flew by private jet from London to New York when he heard that Lauren Silverman went into labor. He and Silverman also reportedly flew by private jet when they vacationed in Miami and spent time with her family shortly after Eric's birth.

Then again, the Cowell family seems to be very dysfunctional, since Simon and his siblings were all born from adulterous relationships, according to the 2012 biography "Sweet Revenge: The Intimate Life of Simon Cowell." Cowell is repeating his family history, since Eric was conceived while Lauren was still married to her first husband, Andrew Silverman, who was one of Simon's closest friends. Andrew filed for divorce in July 2013, citing adultery (Simon's affair with Lauren) as the reason for the divorce.

As for "I Can't Sing!," the musical has been plagued with technical problems, which has caused cancellations and delays for some of the preview performances.

According to the Daily Mirror, Cowell had this to say about the show's difficulties: "If it was the other way 'round, if was all working perfectly but the show was rubbish, then we’d have a real problem.”
