Although they did not give reason why Simon Cowell decided to sell his 2008 Bugatti Veyron afer driving it just twice (maybe the expectant dad fit it with a babyseat), the car went for $1.375 million at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale this past weekend, making it the most expensive certified pre-owned vehicle in America. It was also a bargain, when you consider that if the buyer had purchased it “brand new” it would have cost him anywhere between $1.5-$2.5 million.
Often referred to as a “253 mph rocket with license plates,” the Veyron is being discontinued by Volkswagon (which owns Bugatti) by next year.
Cowell’s car reportedly had only 1,300 miles on it, a set of $42,000 new Michelin tires and went on the block complete with a factory-backed warranty making it a premium buy. It is also one of the few black on black Veyrons available in the US.
