Simon Cowell, James Arthur and other 'X Factor' stars support Red Nose Day 2013

Red Nose Day in 2013 is on March 15, and several "X Factor" stars have done their part to contribute to this annual fundraising effort for Comic Relief.

According to an article published by The Sun on March 15, 2013, "The X Factor" executive producer Simon Cowell will be featured in a comedy sketch on BBC1's "Comic Relief Funny for Money" telethon, which will be televised on March 15 at 7 p.m. BST. In the sketch, Cowell (who is a lifelong bachelor) "will walk down the aisle in front of his celebrity friends as he finally looks set to marry a mystery bride in the wedding of the year," according to The Sun.

Meanwhile, as part of a Red Nose-Day-funded project, "The X Factor" U.K. 2012 winner James Arthur went to his hometown of Middlesbrough, England, to speak to people about mental health at STAMP Revisited. Arthur has been open in telling the media about his own struggles with depression and how music has helped him cope with his emotional problems.

Arthur told The Sun: “Sometimes I can’t sleep, I’ve got that many creative ideas going round my head. I get the guitar out and start singing at the top of my voice until I feel any anxiety draining away. Music is my coping mechanism. Singing something passionately releases that energy.” James is eager to help destroy the taboo that surrounds mental health problems.

"In my life I’ve had some low points, so now it’s really important to give something back because I’m really passionate about changing people’s perceptions about mental health. This project is doing amazing work and the men and women it supports are inspirational.”

As previously reported, One Direction (the boy band that came in third place on "The X Factor" U.K. in 2010) has a Red Nose Day charity single "One Way or Another (Teenage Kicks)" that became a worldwide hit when it was released in February 2013. The song debuted at No. 1 in the U.K. and Ireland and was a Top 10 hit in many other countries.

In addition, One Direction visited underprivileged people in Ghana in January 2013 to raise money for Red Nose Day. Footage of One Direction's charity work in Ghana was later televised on BBC1's "Let's Dance for Comic Relief."

The five members of One Direction also contributed these jokes for Red Nose Day:

  • Harry Styles: "What did zero say to eight? Nice belt!"
  • Liam Payne: "What do you get when you cross a pig and a cactus? A porky-pine."
  • Zayn Malik: "Why did the skeleton go to the movies by himself? He had no body to go with him."
  • Louis Tomlinson: "What do you get when you cross a snowman with a vampire? Frostbite."
  • Niall Horan: "Why did the cookie go to the doctor? Because he was feeling crumby."

As previously reported, Union J (the boy band that came in fourth place on "The X Factor" U.K. in 2012) ate dead worms, scorpions, crickets and eels for Red Nose Day.

UPDATE: Here is an excerpt from the Daily Mirror's description of "Comic Relief Funny for Money" telethon, where One Direction's Tomlinson revealed that he had dyed his hair bright red for Red Nose Day.

"One Direction were welcomed on stage by Miss Piggy before performing official Comic Relief single, 'One Way Or Another (Teenage Kicks).' And mega rich 'X Factor' supremo Simon Cowell showed his lighter side by taking part in a wedding spoof in which David Walliams, Sharon Osborne, Louis Walsh, Olly Murs and Dermot O’Leary were among those hoping to be his bride. Despite each one declaring their feelings for him, Cowell rejected them all, before lifting the veil on the one who loves him the most – himself."
