Simon Cowell is set for a really big week when “The X Factor” premieres on Wednesday and Thursday. To promote the third season, he hit the publicity trail and appeared on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” on Sept. 6. During his candid interview, Cowell got real and revealed juicy details about his unborn child and his thoughts on becoming a father, the huge success of One Direction, and the new judges on “The X Factor.”
Leno opened up the interview by asking Simon about his latest news – that he will soon become a father. “It was a bit of a shocker," Cowell said honestly. “Circumstances were a bit awkward, but everything is fine now and I’m happy.” Concerning the mother of his unborn child, he stated, “She’s adorable.” Leno pressed further and asked about Cowell's relationship with Lauren Silverman, the soon-to-be ex-wife of his good friend. “It sort of developed into something,” Simon replied sheepishly. He refused to reveal the sex of his unborn child, but “Us Magazine" reported earlier this week that Simon and Lauren are expecting a baby boy. Interestingly enough, “The Mirror” claims that Simon has no plans to leave his fortune to his son. “I don’t believe in passing on from one generation to another,” he stated on Sept. 5. Instead, he plans on donating his estate to charity.
On Friday, Simon Cowell also chatted about the globally popular band One Direction. After Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson didn’t advance on “The X Factor UK" in 2010, Cowell took a risk and threw them together into a group. They had only ten days to rehearse, but the end result was phenomenal. One Direction went on to achieve global success and super stardom. Cowell told Jay Leno, “I couldn’t predict what would happen, but it was fantastic.” He called the boys “smart” and credited each one for their meteoric rise to fame. "I’m really happy for them,” he said of his favorite band.
Jay Leno asked Simon about the upcoming premiere of “The X Factor” and his decision to go with three female judges. Cowell joked, “I’ve done a threesome and now I’m doing a foursome.” He explained that he got bored when he and L.A. Reid acted as “bookends” and constantly quarreled. Simon added that so many females are now at the top of the pop charts. “Maybe it’s a girls’ world,” he told Jay. However, Simon quickly joked about his decision, “It’s been a nightmare.”
Cowell said that Demi Lovato is difficult, but fun. “She gives me a hard time and I find it amusing.” He joked that Kelly Rowland is always horny and needs “to take about six showers a day.” Simon added that she did a bang up job on “The X Factor UK” and that’s why he brought her back. Concerning Paulina Rubio, he said, “She’s Spanish and brings something different to the show.” He added that she’s hilarious, very passionate and great fun.
“The X Factor” debuts this week with a two-night premiere on Wednesday, Sept. 11 (8-9 p.m. EST) and Thursday, Sept. 12 (8-10 p.m. EST) on FOX.
