Simon Cowell feels ‘like a daddy’ after birth of son

Simon Cowell is showing his softer side after the birth of his baby boy, Eric. The TV talent critic spoke with the New York Daily News on Feb. 15 after he was photographed outside of Lenox Hill Hospital, saying the newborn is “doing brilliant.” Cowell also added, “I feel like a daddy.”

“The X Factor” creator and his girlfriend, Lauren Silverman, 36, welcomed their 6-pound, 7-ounce son on Valentine’s Day. Cowell announced the baby’s birth to his Twitter followers, writing, “Very happy to say Eric was born at 17.45pm. Healthy and handsome.” He later revealed that the baby was named after his late father.

The 54-year-old first time dad once revealed he didn’t think he’d ever have children. In a 2012 interview with AOL Music, he said, “I do really, really like kids, because I can talk to them and listen to them. The problem has always been how much time you need to devote to bringing up kids and I've always dedicated all my life to work, and at 52, I've probably missed the opportunity.”

In November, Cowell joked to People that he could envision a future competition between his child and Kelly Clarkson’s. (The “American Idol” alum is expecting her first child, a girl, later this year.)

“[They'll be] competing against each other in a competition,” he said. “I can see it now … I’m thinking 15 years ahead.”
