Simon Cowell buys $10 million home in New York City for him and Lauren Silverman

Simon Cowell has bought a $10 million apartment in New York City's Upper East Side neighborhood, where he and his girlfriend Lauren Silverman will live with their son, Eric. On June 24, 2014, E! News reported: "Although the massive pad is still under construction, renderings of the final plan show a spacious dinning room, living room, kitchen, bathroom and even a private terrace." Lauren was previously living in a rented New York City apartment that was renting for a reported $26,000 a month, according to the New York Post. Cowell was no doubt paying for those living expenses too, since Lauren Silverman doesn't have a job or career, and any fortune she might have is from rich men giving the money to her.

In 2013, Cowell put his Beverly Hills mansion up for sale, which was an indication that he knew that "The X Factor" U.S. (whose production was based in the Los Angeles area) was going to be cancelled. He still has homes in London and Miami. Cowell has said in interviews that Eric will be raised in New York and London.

Lauren Silverman is a longtime New York resident but is originally from the Miami area. She shares custody of her 8-year-old son, Adam, with her ex-husband Andrew Silverman, a real-estate mogul. As many people know by now, the Silvermans and Cowell were close friends since 2003, the same year that the Silvermans got married. Cowell and Lauren had an affair while she was still married to Andrew. There are conflicting reports on when their adulterous affair began, but news broke in July 2013 that Andrew had filed for divorce, and Lauren was pregnant with Cowell's child. Eric was born in New York City on Feb. 14, 2014.

In divorce papers, Andrew cited adultery as the reason for the marriage breakup, and he named Cowell as the person who was committed adultery with Lauren. Andrew and Lauren reached a quickie divorce settlement in August 2013. It is widely assumed that the settlement was reached so quickly because Cowell paid off Andrew Silverman. Although terms of the settlement are confidential, TMZ reported that part of the agreement is that Cowell is not allowed to be in contact with Adam until January 2015, and Adam can only call his biological parents his parents.

Cowell and Lauren Silverman have received an enormous amount of backlash from the public about the adultery scandal. That backlash got even larger because Cowell and Silverman have not made any public apologies for their homewrecking actions and all the pain they caused because of their adultery. Instead, when Cowell does interviews talking about his affair with Lauren, he has been incredibly smug and flippant.

That arrogance is one of the reasons why Cowell's popularity has been on a steep decline. "The X Factor" U.S.'s ratings sank even further in 2013, and the show was eventually cancelled. Cowell's return to "The X Factor" U.K. judging panel in 2014 probably won't help the show's ratings go back to the peak it had in 2010. Many people are predicting that BBC rival "Strictly Come Dancing" will continue to surpass ITV's "The X Factor" U.K. in the ratings. The 11th season of "The X Factor" U.K. premieres in August 2014 on a date to be announced.
