Simon Cowell's first child is a boy, according to a New York Daily News report that was published on Sept. 3, 2013. Us Weekly also confirmed this news. New York socialite Lauren Silverman, 36, is the mother of Cowell's child. Although it has not been officially revealed when she is due to give birth, several media outlets (including Us Weekly) have reported that her due date is sometime in February 2014.
As previously reported, Cowell (who is 53) opened up some more about becoming a first-time father in a Daily Mail interview that was published on Aug. 29, 2013, Cowell said that his impending fatherhood is "maybe a miracle," but he stopped short of saying that he would marry Lauren Silverman. "You’ll just have to wait and see," he vaguely stated about the possibility of getting married to her.
On Aug. 20, 2013, Cowell publicly acknowledged for the first time that he is expecting a child with New York socialite Lauren Silverman, who got pregnant with Cowell's child while she was married to her first husband, Andrew Silverman.
Cowell used to say for years that he never wanted to become a father because he thinks he's too much of a workaholic to be a good parent. But he told the Daily Mail: "I have changed my mind. Once it’s happened, you feel completely different. Once I heard the news about the baby, little bit of a shock, then I got used to it, and then I became incredibly paternal and protective and I feel very attached to the baby already. The fact that it can happen at this time of my life is fantastic, maybe a miracle."
On Aug. 24, 2013, Simon Cowell and Lauren Silverman were photographed in public together for the first time since her pregnancy made the news. Paparazzi photos show Cowell and Silverman smiling and holding hands while walking on a beach in St. Tropez, France. They were also photographed kissing each other while in St. Tropez.
The photos came four days after Cowell publicly admitted for the first time that he is having his first child with Lauren Silverman. Cowell told the BBC in an interview at the world premiere of "One Direction: This Is Us" in London on Aug. 20, 2013: "I'm proud to be a dad. It's something I hadn't thought of before, but now I know I feel good about it ... Things are changing in my life right now, for the better. She [Lauren]'s a very special girl."
Cowell made this statement the week after Lauren Silverman reached a divorce settlement with her husband Andrew Silverman, who filed for divorce in July 2013.
TMZ reported on Aug. 14, 2013, that Lauren is getting about $2 million in the divorce settlement and joint custody of Adam Silverman, the 7-year-old son whom she has with Andrew. In his divorce filing, Andrew (who is 37 and a New York-based real-estate mogul) had been seeking sole custody of Adam, and Lauren's adultery with Cowell was named as the reason for the divorce. Lauren and Andrew Silverman were married in 2003, the same year that they met Cowell.
In addition, TMZ reported that Lauren will remain based in New York to be close to her son Adam. Cowell (who has never been married) does not have a home in New York (he spends most of his time in London, Los Angeles and Miami), so it calls into question how much time Cowell will really be spending with Lauren and his "love child." Unnamed sources close to Cowell have been telling the media that Cowell has no plans to marry or live with Lauren. According to the Daily News, Lauren is moving into a new apartment in Manhattan's Upper East Side neighborhood.
At a press event for the stage musical "I Can't Sing!" in London on Sept. 2, 2013, Cowell commented on looking forward to the birth of his first child: “I went to see a scan today and it is just surreal. You can see this thing which is now alive, moving around. So I am happy.”
Cowell is one of the producers of "I Can't Sing" (a comedic production based on "The X Factor" U.K.), which which is scheduled to premiere at the London Palladium in London on March 29, 2014. Previews are from Feb. 27 to March 25, 2014. Tickets are currently on sale. More information can be found at the official "I Can't Sing!" website. Olivier Award-winning actor Nigel Harman has been cast as Cowell in "I Can't Sing!"
Cowell is due to be in Los Angeles for "X Factor" duties in September 2013. The third season of "The X Factor" U.S. has a two-part premiere on Fox on Sept. 11 and Sept. 12, 2013. The show's judges in 2013 are Cowell, Kelly Rowland, Demi Lovato and Paulina Rubio.
Sept. 13, 2013 update: Lauren Silverman's mother, Carole Saland, confirmed to E! News that Lauren and Cowell's child is a boy. Salande (who flew from Florida to New York to spend time with Lauren for the Jewish New Year) commented, "We're all excited and we're all doing well. I'm just happy to be up here spending time with everyone. I'm so happy things have calmed down."
