"The X Factor" U.S. judges Simon Cowell and Demi Lovato did separate interviews with Jay Leno on NBC's "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno" in Burbank, Calif., and took the opportunity to call each other "difficult."
Lovato and Cowell are known for having tension-filled banter with each other on "The X Factor." She joined the show in 2012, while Kelly Rowland and Paulina Rubio became "X Factor" U.S. judges in 2013.
Cowell took the first shot at Lovato in his "Tonight Show" interview on Sept. 6, 2013. When he was asked to use three words to describe each of the other "X Factor" U.S. judges, he said about Lovato: "Difficult, difficult and difficult." He added, "But I like her ... She's great fun. Basically, she gives me a hard time, and I find that amusing."
Cowell said about Rowland: "She's gorgeous. She did ['The X Factor'] U.K. show for me, and she was sensational. She's very horny ... She needs to take about six showers a day, this girl."
And Cowell had this to say about Rubio: "She's also very horny. Someone told me about her years ago. I actually wanted her on '[American] Idol' after Paula [Abdul] left. She's brings something different to the show. Half the time, I cant understand a single word she's saying, but she is hilarious, very passionate and great fun."
Ellen DeGeneres ended up replacing Abdul on "American Idol." DeGeneres, who lasted just one season on "American Idol," quit in 2010 after getting much public criticism for her bland judging style.
Cowell was also asked about becoming a father, but he said the same things that he's been saying in other interviews: that he's happy and that the mother of his child (New York socialite Lauren Silverman) is a "great girl." The baby is reportedly due in February 2014.
As for the circumstances of her pregnancy (she got pregnant while married to Cowell's close friend Andrew Silverman; the Silvermans reached a divorce settlement in August 2013), Cowell continued to laugh about it and say that it was "awkward." Cowell's adulterous affair with Lauren was cited in the Silvermans' divorce papers as the reason for the divorce. Cowell refuses to make a public apology for his role in breaking up the Silvermans' marriage and the emotional harm he may have caused the Silvermans' 7-year-old son Adam.
Even though Lauren Silverman's mother confirmed to E! News that Lauren and Cowell's child is a boy, Cowell has declined to say in interviews if the child is a boy or a girl.
When Lovato did her "Tonight Show" interview on Sept. 17, 2013, she said about Cowell's child: "If I'm not asked to be the godmother, I'm going to be pissed!" Lovato also said she was as surprised as many other people were that Cowell was going to be a father, since Cowell said for many years before the pregnancy that he didn't want to be a parent because he's too much of a workaholic.
Lovato was also played the clip of Cowell calling her difficult. Leno then asked Lovato to respond by describing Cowell in three words. She replied, "Even more difficult."
As previously reported, Lovato has signed a multi-book deal with publisher Feiwel and Friends. The first book, which is due out in November 2013, is titled "Staying Strong: 365 Days a Year," and it will have numerous messages /tweets that Lovato posted on Twitter about her life. In her "Tonight Show" interview, Lovato mentioned that the messages in the book will be "inspirational." She also said that meditation has helped her with her various personal issues. Lovato has gone public about being bipolar and in recovery from substance abuse, eating disorders and self-harming. She has been to rehab for these issues.
In her "Tonight Show" interview, Lovato also said that she believes in ghosts and the paranormal because her family's house in Texas in haunted and that when she was younger, she once saw the ghost of a little girl in her closet.
Lovato is scheduled to return to "The Tonight Show" on Oct. 2, 2013, when she will perform on the show.
